I Lost My Passport
- File a police report. Go to the Tourist Police booth on Khao San Road or the nearest police station. Get a stamped copy of the report — you need this for everything else.
- Contact your embassy. Most embassies are in the Wireless Road / Ploenchit area (30 min by taxi from Khao San). They can issue an emergency travel document. Bring the police report and any ID you have (photos of your passport on your phone work).
- Visit Thai Immigration. Government Complex, Chaengwattana Road. You need a new entry stamp or re-entry permit if your passport was stolen. The embassy letter helps here.
- Contact your travel insurance. Most policies cover document replacement costs, rebooking fees, and emergency accommodation if you're stranded.
- Notify your airline. You may need to rebook if the emergency passport takes time. Some airlines accept embassy-issued travel documents; some don't. Call ahead.
Prevention
Keep a photo of your passport on your phone and in your email. Store your actual passport in your hotel safe — carry a photocopy when going out.

I Got Robbed
- Get to safety first. Move to a well-lit, crowded area. The 7-Elevens on Khao San Road are open 24/7 and are safe spots to regroup.
- Call the Tourist Police (1155). They speak English and are trained to help tourists. They can help you file a report and guide next steps.
- Cancel your cards immediately. Call your bank's international number. If your phone was stolen too, ask your hotel or a 7-Eleven staff to help you make the call.
- File an official police report. You need this for insurance claims. The Tourist Police can assist. Get a stamped copy with a case number.
